EDUCATION
Dr. Lipstock graduated Summa cum laude from Queens College in New York. He attended medical school at MCV and finished his residency in Opthalmology at MCV in 1985. Dr. Lipstock went on to train further with Luis Ruiz, M.D., the inventor of the surgical instrument that made LASIK possible.
EXPERIENCE
Dr. Lipstock has 25 years of experience treating eye diseases both medically and surgically. He has performed thousands of laser procedures for glaucoma and retinal disorders. He has performed thousands of cataract surgery procedures, and is one of the few surgeons in Central Virginia to routinely perform the advanced cataract surgery technique known as no needle—no stitch—no patch. Dr. Lipstock was the first surgeon in Virginia to perform LASIK and the first in Central Virginia to perform blade free LASIK. Along with Luis Ruiz, M.D., he founded the International Center of Refractive Surgery where together they trained surgeons from across the United States in advanced LASIK techniques. The early years spent learning and teaching with Dr. Ruiz, have provided Dr. Lipstock with an in-depth knowledge of the LASIK procedure and a masterful surgical technique.
PRACTICE
Dr. Lipstock runs a comprehensive Ophthalmology practice. He specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts as well as the surgical treatment for refractive errors known as LASIK. For those with or without cataracts he is dedicated to the goal of eliminating the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses for both distance and near vision even for those over the age of 40. Dr. Lipstock has led the way to help Virginians see clearly for years. He is very involved in research to advance the field of cataract and refractive surgery. In 2010 he presented the latest results of his research in cataract surgery in Charlottesville at the Virginia Society of Opthalmology`s annual meeting, in Paris during the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery`s annual meeting and in Chicago at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
PERSONAL PROFILE
Dr. Lipstock was born in Long Island, New York and has resided in Richmond, Virginia for over 30 years with his wife, Joan.They have three boys ages 24 to 31. They all enjoy many outdoor activities. The Lipstock Family is also involved in activities that foster the education and social support of autistic children and young adults.
