EDUCATION
Dr. Magovern received a B.A. degree from Holy Cross College in Worchester, MA, and an M.D. degree from Georgetown University. He underwent an Internal Medicine Internship at Grady Memorial Hospital, followed by Residency in Ophthalmology at Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University, Atlanta GA. He underwent a Fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at Washington Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
EXPERIENCE
Malcolm Magovern M.D. is a Board Certified ophthalmologist (American Board of Ophthalmology) with fellowship training in Corneal and External Disease. Additionally, Dr. Magovern specializes in small incision cataract extraction with lens implant and the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Dr. Magovern performs comprehensive eye examinations both of a routine nature, as well as for diagnosing and treating eye disease. Dr. Magovern has served as the Medical Director of the Old Dominion Eye Bank in Richmond, VA since 1990. He served as Chief of the Ophthalmology Service in the military. Dr. Magovern has acted as Instructor for Corneal and External Disease Courses for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has several publications related to Corneal and External Disease. Dr. Magovern is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has active membership in the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the Castroviejo Corneal Society, and the Eye Bank Association of America.
