Surgeon Interviews
INTERVIEW WITH DR. TIMOTHY ZIMMER - ORTHOPEDIC FOOT AND ANKLE SPECIALIST
TOPIC: FOOT AND ANKLE PROBLEMS
Julie: I’m Julie Bragg here with Dr. Tim Zimmer and you are an orthopedic surgeon, but you specialize in foot and ankle problems. What does that mean?
Dr. Zimmer: Largely the foot and ankle problems that I see are either in the front part of the foot, which are bunions, hammer toes, neuromas, bone spurs, and then in the back part of the foot are more tendon issues, arthritic conditions, and also diabetic patients have a lot of foot problems that I treat.
Julie: Arthroscopy, what is that exactly?
Dr. Zimmer: Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure, involves small incisions, and it is done using fiber optic technology, so that instead of looking inside of the patient, we are actually looking at a TV monitor to see the structures inside, and then treat them with small instruments, whether to trim out scar tissue or loose cartilage, or treat arthritic conditions.
