Before Your Surgery

After your surgeon has scheduled your procedure at Stony Point Surgery Center, representatives from the Center will contact you. The representatives will review any pre-op testing, your medical history, medications you are taking, and discuss any concerns or answer any questions you may have about your financial responsibilities to the Center. Deductibles and co-payments are due prior to surgery. For your convenience, we accept VISA, MasterCard, and Discover, as well as personal checks and cash

 

Pediatric Information:

If your child is scheduled for a surgical procedure, you and your child are invited to tour the facility. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to schedule a tour, please call us at (804) 775-4500.

THE DAY OF YOUR SURGERY

 

FOR SURGERY PATIENTS

Adults & Children: You may have a light meal (toast & clear liquids) up to 6 hours prior to arrival, and only clear liquids up to 2 hours prior to your arrival. Clear liquids include tea, black coffee, soda, water or apple juice. For infants, breast milk (only) is okaay up to 4 hours prior to arrival and infant formula up to 6 hours prior to arrival. Take all medicines as usual on the day of surgery except fluid pill and diabietes pill. Patients on insulin are to take one-half (1/2) of their normal dose of insulin.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing (button down the front shirts are preferred).

Bring your insurance cards, forms and information, and method of payment with you.

If you have an Advance Directive, please bring a copy with you.

Leave your valuables, jewelry and personal belongings at home. (Do bring a photo ID).

Do not wear makeup, false eyelashes, contact lenses or perfume.

If your child is having surgery, one parent must remain in the center at all times. Your child may bring a small toy to carry. For more information visit The Kid's Center.

The number of visitors for any one patient may be limited in the recovery area due to space constraints.

You will be discharged when you recover from the effects of your procedure and any medications you received. It is normal for you to feel weak and drowsy.

After your procedure, you must be accompanied and driven home by an adult. No patient will be permitted to leave the Center alone.

Please plan to have someone with you for at least 24 hours after your procedure. You will be given writen instructions at the time of discharge.

 

FOR INTERVENIONAL SPINE OR PAIN MANAGEMENT PATIENTS:

You may have a light meal (toast & clear liquids) up to 6 hours prior to arrival. Clear liquids include tea, black coffee, soda, water or apple juice.

It is important if you are taking any blood thinner (Plavis, Coumadin, Aspirin, BC or Goody Powder), please contact your cardiologist or your pain physician for medical clearance.

Wear loose pants, comfortable clothing (button down the front shirts are preferred).

Bring your insurance cards, forms and information, and method of payment wih you.

Leave your valuables, jewlery and personal belongings at home. (Do bring a photo ID).

You will be discharged when you recover from the effects of your procedure and any medications you received. It is normal to feel weak and drowsy if any sedation is used.

FOR LASER PATIENTS:

You may eat as usual.

Take all medications as usual.

Bring your insurance cards, forms and information and method of payment with you.

You will be discharged after your procedure and you may drive yourself home.

Sunglasses are recommended for after your procedure.

 

FOR ENDOSCOPIC PATIENTS:

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your procedure.

The colonoscopy requires that you take a bowel prep. This ensures that your colon is clean and clear of stool for a better examination. It is very important that you follow instructions given to you by your physician.

In preparation for your procedure, your physician will give you instructions regarding medications.

Please arrange in advance for a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure. It is best if your driver remains in the waiting area during the procedure. If you plan to take a taxi, arrange for another adult to accompany you.

Do not drive or operate machinery for 12 hours following your procedure.

Do not sign any important papers or make any significant decision until the following day.

Do no drink alcohol for 12 hours following your procedure.

Before you leave you will be given specific written discharge instructions. A nurse will explain and deomonstrate any special instructions to aid in your recovery.
