Education

Dr. Iuorno received his medical degree from St. George's univeristy School of Medicine. After completing an internship at St. Jose's University Health Center, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Upstate Medical Center. He completed his Cornea/ External Disease/ Refractive Surgery Fellowship Training at the University of Minnesota.

Experience

Dr. Joseph Iuorno is an American Academy of Ophthalmology board certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained in Corneal/External Disease and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Iuorno participates as a professor in the Osler Institute Ophthalmology Review course. The Osler Course is a national ophthalmic review course for all ophthalmologists preparing for written and oral board certification examinations. These courses are held in San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia several times throughout the year. Dr. Iuorno is also the Director for the VCU Department of Ophthalmology Residency Training Program, and an Assistant Professor.

Practice

West End Ophthalmology will provide the finest general and subspecialty eye care in the areas of cornea, external disease and refractive surgery; as well as, LASIK, PRK and other cornea laser procedures. We will consistently meet or exceed the service and patient-care expectations of our patrons by investing in staff education and new treatment modalities. We will maintain a comfortable, warm and pleasing environment accessible to all patients. Finally, we will allow ample time to listen to each patient’s concern.

Personal Profile

In April of 2006, Dr. Iuorno performed the first cataract phacoemulsification surgery on the island of Grenada. Currently, he plans to make this mission trip annually in the company of local VCU ophthalmology residents. He will extend this mission to educate Grenadian physicians on modern surgical techniques. Dr. Iuorno is currently FDA approved to perform Intacs and Ophtec aniridic lenses.
