Peter Wilbanks, M.D.
Education
Dr. Wilbanks attended Washington & Lee University to earn a bachelor of science degree. It was there he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was named the first Lewis Scholar. He earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the Medical College of Virginia where he was elected Chief Resident of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also was chosen by the faculty to receive the Roberts award for excellence in his field.
Experience
Dr. Wilbanks has been in private practice in Richmond since 1993. He is a partner and member of the board of the Virginia Women’s Center. He is past Head of the Dept. of Ob-Gyn at St. Mary’s Hospital. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood and for ten years served as the volunteer Medical Director. Dr. Wilbanks is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He has also been named a fellow by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Richmond Obstetrical & Gynecological Society and the Virginia Obstetrical & Gynecological Society.
Practice
Dr. Wilbanks enjoys his patients’ triumphs and challenges. He has experienced great success working with women experiencing high-risk pregnancies including multiple births. Of particular interest to many women, Dr. Wilbanks also has been successful in the treatment of premenstrual syndrome. Dr. Wilbanks also has an interest in minimally invasive surgery and non-surgical management of common gynecological problems including uterine fibroids and heavy menstrual bleeding.
Personal Profile
Dr. Wilbanks is married with 2 small children. He enjoys spending time with his family as well as racquet and water sports. He is active in his church, St. James’s Episcopal Church, as well as other community organizations.
