Dr. Rivet specializes in colon and rectal surgery.


After obtaining her medical degree at Washington University, Dr. Rivet stayed to complete a general surgery residency, and colon and rectal surgery fellowship. During her GS residency, Dr. Rivet received an MBA focusing on economics and logistics in health care. Dr. Rivet's interest in Hospice and Palliative Medicine led to recently completing additional fellowship training at VCU, resulting in an appointment as an Attending Physician on the palliative medicine service, both on the inpatient consult service and covering the inpatient palliative medicine unit.

Dr. Rivet’s research focus is in the advancement of knowledge regarding integration of palliative medicine into the care of surgical patients. Additionally, she is interested in medical and surgical ethics and plans to serve on the ethics committee at VCU. In addition, Dr. Rivet is concerned with end of life care and ethical medical practice, including the issues associated with research allocation in health care and how these intersect with the practice of surgery.


Dr. Rivet is a colon and rectal surgeon with clinical interests in minimally invasive approaches for treatment of colon and rectal disease; surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease; malignant conditions of the colon, rectum and anus; screening and diagnostic colonoscopy, and benign anal and rectal problems.
